The Surfers Path - issue 41 - Feb/Mar 2004
In "The Island", James Wormell writes of a trip with Tatchu Adventures to Nootka Island:
"It is clear that this area is exceptional. All up the west coast of the Americas, from Chile to Canada, surfers have explored new breaks to ride, yet this area remains largely untouched. It's one of the finest unspoiled areas of coastal wilderness left in the Americas, an ecological jewel rich in animal and marine life. And yet, if you have the means, this is just a half day's travel from Vancouver airport"
He quotes Clay: "Surfing in Tofino is all about looking good and getting laid when you're 17 years old. If I wanted that, I'd go there. This is about more than that. We're pushing the organic side, and we want sustainability. People come out here for the surfing, but it ends up becoming more than that." |
